The Adirondack Book: A Complete Guide, by Elizabeth
Folwell, Berkshire House Publishers (probably the best book of its kind on the
Adirondacks) - " Folks passing through Indian Lake hamlet always
comment on a beautiful perennial garden on Main Street; from May through the
fall there's a constant display of daffodils, irises, peonies, lilies,
asters, and fall flowers. The garden was
tended by Lilias Cross, who took in guests beginning in the sixties, and now
her grandson, Bill Zullo, is doing the same. Guestbooks from 30 years ago
still capture the flavor of the place: " Our stay here was wonderful as
usual. In the past 16 years, nothing has changed," commented one repeat
visitor 20 years ago. You'll still find real braided rugs on the floors,
tatted spreads on the antique beds, ruffled curtains on the windows, family pictures dating back to the turn of the century on the
walls, and a homey, quiet atmosphere...The living room has comfortable
Grandma's house-type furniture, a fireplace, cable TV, and shelves of board
games and puzzles. From the shady front porch you can look out over the
garden, and farther back on the old 40-acre farm, there's a big raspberry
patch that's open for grazing. Town tennis courts are kitty-corner from the
house." |
